Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
