Automobiles in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior official commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
